Boathouse XVII: Pembroke and Darwin

Boathouse XVII: Pembroke and Darwin

A combination of photograph and painting to showcase the beauty of the Cambridge boathouses.

Boathouse XVII is the home of the Pembroke College and Darwin College Boat Clubs. It was built in 1896, with arched windows, a decorative timber frame and, originally, balconies running around the front and sides. It is now a Grade II Listed Building.

The beautiful double gables of this Boathouse inspired this whole project! The building seems to split right down the middle so Sara’s photograph forms one half and Naomi’s drawing and painting the other.

This is one of a series of images of the wonderfully eclectic and iconic series of Boathouses that are found along the River Cam.
