Boathouse XI has been the home of St Catharine’s College Boat Club since 1958.
Whilst Sara was waiting opposite this boathouse, hoping for some rowers to come and open up the door, she spotted a heron taking advantage of the calmness. Naomi painted the reflection both of the heron and of the building with its unusual pyramid roof and its graceful spiral staircase. As she was painting a reflection, she did not use her usual fountain pen to draw, but relied on watercolour alone to create the clear but not completely still reflection.
This is one of a series of images of the wonderfully eclectic and iconic series of boathouses that are found along the River Cam.
